In 2014, the industry’s global digital revenues increased by 6.8 per cent to US$6.85 billion. For the first time, the industry derived the same proportion of revenues from digital channels (46%) as physical format sales (46%).
Music subscription services were a major driver of digital growth, substaining a sharp upward trend of recent years. Revenue rose 39.0 per cent in 2014 to US$1.57 billion. Revenues from music subscription revenues now make up 23 per cent of digital revenues globally, up from only 18 per cent in 2013.
